About the Artists

This year's beautiful art was created by two young local artists, Sofia Lacin & Hennessy Christophel

We believe in art’s power to change, influence and add richness to life. Built on our common passion for art and a desire to get our work out to the world, we founded our business, Lacin/Christophel Mural & Design. For the past year we have been actively engaged in the visual transformation of Sacramento, mural by mural, piece by piece.

We were both born and raised in Sacramento. We met in the Mira Loma art department where we built a lasting friendship while experimenting with oil paints. After graduating, Sofia went to UC Davis and spent a year abroad in Florence studying Studio Art and Italian, while Hennessy went on to study Art at UC Santa Cruz. Coming together again after college we realized that art was now not only a passion, but also our life path.

The piece we designed for Pops in the Park is a graphic expression of what Pops in the Park is; a wonderful summer concert series full of family, friends and music. In every project, our goal is to develop a design that will not only serve its commercial purpose but will also catch people’s attention and evoke feeling. Whether we are painting a mural or making a graphic design on a computer, we want the things we make to be unique and beautiful.

We feel there has been a recent change in the public’s perspective on living. People are seeking authentic experiences and businesses are looking for a unique identity. Handmade is hot; individuality is valuable. We feel grateful to be able to contribute something to our community that feels different and fun and brings people together. In the past year we have built friendships and developed a real relationship with the town we live in, and we have art to thank.

Pursuing art in our personal lives, we have each developed a specific visual sensitivity. Looking at our individual work side by side you can identify our visual points of view and find strong reflections of personality. Hennessy makes intricate illustrated books and Sofia creates bold abstract paintings and line drawings. The way we work and paint reveals a lot about who we are…Hennessy has a delicate attention to detail and a supreme patience, whereas Sofia brings spontaneity and breathes life into carefully planned pieces through rapid brush strokes and vibrant color. Working together in this past year we have discovered that what is true in our friendship is true in our artistic collaborations; our individual perspectives create strengths that are complimentary.
